Abner WEST11,157,667 was born in 1774. He was born between 1780 and 1784 in York District, SC. He died before 1840 in Crawford Co., MO. Abner West was born about 1780-84 in S. Carolina. He married Sarah Laffoon, the daughter of William Laffoon and Suzana Bledsoe. Sarah was born about 1785-90 in Surry Co., N. Carolina.
Abner Sarah first appear in the Pendleton District of S. Carolina, in 1810. They were probably married about 1804. Two of their children were born in the Pendleton District. They were Ellen and Hardin. In 1814 or 1815 they moved to Hopkins Co., KY.
Abner's father-in-law, William Laffoon, was apparently quite wealthy and an influential man. He was appointed a magistrate for Greenville and Pendleton District, S. Carolina. The reason we have found it hard to place Abner with his own family is because he seemed to associate himself more with the Laffoons than with his own West family.
Abner and Sarah went with the Laffoon's to Kentucky where William Laffoon immediately began buying land. Abner did not buy land there until 1819. The rest of Abner and Sarah's children were born in Hopkins Co., KY. They grew up and began marrying about 1824.
William Laffoon died 11-29-1821, and named Sarah West as his daughter in his will that was probated in Feburary of 1822.
Abner and Sarah moved to Crawford Co., MO, in 1831-32. All of their children and their families moved with them except one. Apparently Abner was in ill health or having some kind of difficulties as he named his son, John West, his power-of-attorney to dispose of his property in KY. The land was sold in 1833.
Abner apparently died before 1840 in Crawford Co., MO. It is believed Sarah died between 1850-55 in Miller or Osage Co., MO.
Parents: Isaac WEST.

Spouse: Sarah LAFFOON. Sarah LAFFOON and Abner WEST were married in 1804 in Pendleton District, SC. Submitted by Rick Giirtman

Dr. Benjamin Franklin WEST157 was born on 20 March 1871 in Osage Co., MO. He was christened on 14 July 1892 in Marriage licence--Mary Long. He was buried on 20 July 1892 in Marriage licence filed. Benjamin died on 15 June 1938 in Denton Co., TX. Doctor Benjamin Franklin West was born in 1871 in Osage Co., MO. He was the son of Hardin West and Sarah Hicks. When he was 4 or 5 years old his parents moved to Tarrant Co., Tx., and settled near the community of Grapevine.
In 1881, when "Doc" was 10 years old his father, Hasrdin West, died. Apparently his mother raised the children alone and remained in Tarrant Co. until they were grown. Doc had two brothers, Lee and Marion, and a sister, Lucy.
Doc married Mary Susan (Molly) Long in 1892 in Denton Co., TX. She was the daughter of Charles Edgar Long and Elizabeth Knight. They began their family in Tarrant Co., TX. A daughter was born in 1893 and they named her Emmer.
Shortly before 1895-96 they moved to OK. (then known as Indian Territory). Here a son was born and they named him Benjamin, he was born in 1897. Doc's mother, Sarah West lived in OK. as did his two brothers and his sister and their families.
Doc returned to Tarrant Co. before 1898. He began farming in the area north of Fort Worth. By 1905 Doc and Molly added five more children to their family. They were Ruby, Earl and Pearl (who are twins), Bessie, and Ethel.
In the early 1900's many farmers became sharecroppers. Doc was such a farmer. He grew crops on rented land for a share of the farm's production. He provided the labor of himself and his family to make a living. In return, the landlord supplied him with land, a house, equipment, work animals, and cash or credit to live on until the crop was harvested. Sometime he received a half or three-fourths of the crop.
Before 1908 Doc was farming in Jack Co., TX. At this location another son was born and they named him Edgar.
By 1910 Doc and Molly were in Runnels Co., TX., where Doc had another sharecrop. They made the trip down there in two covered wagons. They were living near Crews. Here they had another son and named him Marion. Also while at this location their oldest daughter Emmer married Iva Brown in 1911. In 1913 their daughter Ruby married Ben Isbell in Young Co., TX.
Doc and Molly went back to Tarrant Co. before 1915. Their last two children were born here. They were Elizabeth who was born in 1915, and Ira who was born in 1917.
Our country was drawn into World War 1 by 1919. Doc was to old to be called into service, but his oldest son Ben was called and served in Germany. When the war was over the West family was lucky not to have lost any loved ones.
During the 1920's more of Doc and Molly's children were marrying. Bessie married Lee Taylor in 1920, Pearl married Chris Paulson in 1922, Earl married Annie Upchurch in 1926, and Ethel married Jim Holder in 1927. Also during the early twenties a flu epedemic was sweeping the country. Tragedy came to Doc and Molly when they lost their son Edgar of pneumonia in 1923. He was 15 years old. By 1929 our country was entering a great depression. People everywhere were out of work or did not have food. These were terrible times, fortunatly Doc and Molly knew how to survive.
In the 1930's the rest of Doc and Molly's children were married. Marion married Hattie Helm in 1932, Ben married Nell Keating in 1937, Ira married Jewel Ethridge in 1937, and Elizabeth married "Red" Marlett in 1937.
Doc lived most of his life around Tarrant Co., TX. Many of his children settled there and later his grandchildren. Most of his decendants still live around that area today. However, there are a few of us sprinkled around Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, and Louisiana. There are a number of decendants in California and various other places.
In 1938, when Doc was 67 years old he passed from this life. At the time they were living in Aledo, Texas. He is buried in the Flower Mound Cemetery in Denton Co., TX. Parents: Hardin WEST and Sara Jane HICKS.
