After their marriage they farmed until 1918 ini Searsboro and then movedto Grinnell.  In the early 1920s Jesse built his home which still standsand is nicknamed the "Alamo on Penrose" because of it's Spanishinfluence.  The property was purchased after their deaths by the PaulAhren's family and today is the site of Ahrens Park.
