Elliott Darnell HORNBACK

1  _UID 1D32C27CFD288444BA6451DC76A5DF1CDB25

Residence and name patterns strongly indicate that the Elliott D. Hornbeck who
married Adaline Warfield was the same Elliott Darnell Hornback who married
Minerva Jane Barbaer in Bath County, Kentucky, in 1849.  He was was the
son of Abraham Hornback and Ruth Darnell.
Elliott Darnell Hornback appears to have been named after his mother, Ruth
Darnell's brother, Elliott Darnell of Bath County, Kentucky.
Elliott appears to have left Adaline and the family prior to 23 Jun 1880 when
Adaline and her children were listed in the 1880 census without Elliott.1  BIRT

Adeline WARFIELD

1  _UID E52431903B8D6245B2DAC363191E45EA51B7

The death record of her son, Elliot Warfield Hornbek, which was completed by
his second wife, Maggie L. Hornbek, lists that Elliot's mother, Adeline
"Worfield," was born in Syracuse, New York, while census and family records list
that she was born in Massachusetts.
Though three of Adaline's older children were by her first husband, Simon A.
"George" Harker, they were erroneously listed with the Hornbek surname in the
1880 census of El Paso County, Colorado.  All three children list the
same place of birth for their father as Massachusetts.
According to records of Lila Hornbek, wife of Roy L. Ash, Adeline had a brother
named Alexander Warfield who was a business partner of Simon A. "George"
Harker, her first husband.
On 21 Jul 1866, Adaline Harker, a widow, purchased 80 acres of her homested for
$1.25 an acre under provisions in the homestead act.
Adaline's second husband,
Adaline married secondly to Elliott Darnel Hornbeck, on 2 Sep 1866, at the
Trinity Methodist Church in Denver.  Elliott left her shortly after the birth
birth of their only son, Elliot Warfield Hornbeck, born 29 Dec  1868 at Cherry
Creek, Arapaho County, Colorado;

Both Cripple Creek, Teller County, Colorado, and Cherry Creek, Arapaho County,
Colorado, are listed as places of birth for Elliott.  However, Cherry Creek
appears to be most accurate, particularly since Cripple Creek was not founded
until 1891.
No marriage record is recorded in Rio Blanco County or in the Meeker Herald for
the marriage of Elliott and Orah Francis Carter.  However, they married
between 1893-1896.  They had four children who attended the Petrolite School in
Rio Blanco County, located south of Meeker.
The Meeker Herald, dated 10 Jan 1907, lists that "E.W. Hornbek and Frank Clark
departed yesterday for Lily Park with two large freight outfits loaded with
oats for the Clark survey horses."  The Herald further lists that on 15 Feb
1907, "E.W. Hornbek and George Bloomfield have gone to Ely, Nevada. Ely is the
latest and most promising El Dorado."  On 4 May 1907, the Herald lists "Mrs.
Elliott W. Hornbek was a passenger on the outgoing stage Tuesday bound for
Ely, Nevada, where Mr. Hornbek is now located.  If Mrs. Hornbek likes it out
there the family will move to the great Nevada Cooper Camp during the summer."
25 May 1907, "Mrs. Elliott W. Hornbek is home again after a visit to Salt Lake
City where she met Mr. Hornbek."
By 1909, Elliot and Ora had separated.
