Ulrich WEISS

Ulrich Weiss, b. Germany c. 1720, married Catherina Hertzog, daughter of Friedrich Hertog, possibly in Germany or in Pennsylvania. Immigrated to America on the St. Mark, landing at Philadelphia on September 11, 1741. Lived in Pennsylvania and possibly in Virginia before appearing in  Orange Co., NC in 1759.  Signed Regulator Petitions in Orange and Guilford Counties.  Possibly died at the Battle of Alamance. Ulrich Weiss died before 1790 when Philliph (sic) White and Catey White are both found living near Zachariah Martin on Rocky River.  Near them, a Simon White is listed who may also have been a son of Ulrich Weiss and Catherina Hertzog.

               Niklas (?) Seyler  married Elisabeth Hertzog, his aunt

    The name "Niklas" is Rupp's transcription of the original records and may be in error. Siler family records indicate that the immigrant was named Plikard Dederick Seyler.  They  relate that Seyler/Siler met a 14 year old girl, Elisabeth "Hartsoe," who was on the ship with her family.  He fell in love with her and determined to marry her. Because he had to work in  Pennsylvania to repay the cost of his passage he did not immediately ask for her hand.  When he finally able to marry he paid her father a dower in tobacco
