Here is everything I know about T J WRAY (My g Grandfather). Written by Patsy Hively 4-5-04
My grandmother told me her father had Asthma and sometimes slept sitting up. She said they moved from Overton CO TN to OK which was Indian Territory at the time, when she was small because she rode sidesaddle. They moved in a covered wagon. They were in Chickasaw Nation on the 1910 census and 2 of the younger children were born there.
My grandmother said he and his brother were orphaned at a young age and a family by the name of Cherry took them in. I have never been able to link them with this family. The first census I see them on is 1850 Wilson CO. TN and a Caroline Wade is running some sort of mill and Thomas is listed as a carder and William (2 lines down) is listed as an operator.
In 1860 he is listed as Thomas RHEA w/ Ellen and his first 2 children by his first wife, Henrietta and Emily. In 1884 he started his second family - he was 50 years old and he had 7 more children! He is listed and know mostly as a farmer - only 1 census says he was a brick mason.
She also said that her father had a brother, I am not sure, but I want to say his name was William Wray. They joined the war (CIVIL WAR??) together and lost touch with each other somehow. Apparently Thomas went in as Infantry and was transferred to Cavalry, according to the widows confederate pension application applied for (but was denied) by Sarah, his wife. We think the army may have spelled his name RAY and Sarah did not pursue it.
He was a religious man and was trustee for the Church of Christ in Dekalb, TX around 1917. I have copies of receipt for purchase of a lot in OLD DEKALB for a church. [Gilbert_Neves_Wray_Hall_Family_Tree.FBK.FTW]
I think Thomas Jefferson Wray was born in Wilson Co.  He had 2 families.  His first wife was Elondes S? and they had 4 children. The second was Sarah Permelia Carr w/ he married 10/9/1884. He was 50 years old and she was 26. Sarah & Thomas  had 7 more children. One of Which "Jimmie" died in East Texas w/ malaria at 17. The search is for his parents. I have no documentation so far. The clue lies in TN or with his first wifes children.
Per conversation w/ Ruby Dunn, grandaughter of TJ Wray and my 2nd cousin, on 11/30/04. She said T J Wray had a good friend named Cordell who lived close to him in Bowie Co. They both were in the civil war and Cordell fought with the North and T J Wray w/ the South. See info on Sarah P Wray for more input on this conversation.
