In 1787, Leonard (III) and Nancy moved to Surry Co., NC. The area later became Stokes Co. in 1789 and Forsyth Co. in 1849. Leonard and Nancy had fourteen children, Elizabeth, John, Anna, Christopher, William, Leonard (IV), Susanna, Mary, Reuben, Michael, James, Daniel, and Benjamin. This is only thirteen children and my notes say that the fourteenth child was named Zimmerman, an unusual first name.

William LEE

1  _UID EE9E3D95264DEC429FE23F3F3C2E1A50D283

This William Lee is thought to have come to Pikeville, Bledsoe County
TN in 1807 or 1808.  He came from Virginia maybe White County or maybe
Lee County Virginia.  William settled about 2 miles from Pikeville
with his family he had at least 6 boys.  They bought land and cleared
it, working the land for about six years.  A old land grant from North
Carolina turned up taking all their land and improvements that they had
made to the land.  In disgust most of this family went to Indiana.
William I died in Bledsoe County TN.  His wife Elizabeth went to
Indiana the others.  It seems that William's sons John and Vardemon
stayed in Tennessee.  William II did not stay in Indiana.  William II
married a Matlida ?? then later he married Ann Brock in Kentucky. You
must keep in mind that the State lines and county lines were very fluid
at this time and changed often.

Both John and his wife Mary were killed by Indians in 1791 about 5 miles from Nashville. He was shot 12 times and then was mutilated, probably because he had been a spy and he had done some acts of revenge, his wife having been killed only months earlier in the year. Ref.
