ELIZABETH is in the 1900 Gibson Co. Tennessee Census: BUTT R AM, Elizabeth, white, born Sept 1815 in NC, age 84, livi n g in household of William T. Davidson as mother-in-law. In 1906 Elizabeth made application #884 for Confederate Indigent Widow's Pension at Gibson Co. Tennessee. The following information is from her application. She was "born Elizabeth Fletcher on Sept. 1, 1815/16 in Granville Co., NC and at the time of her application had lived in TN for 82 years. Her husband was born Oct. 10, 1817 in Alabama (another source gave GA). Their marriage license was dated Feb. 5, 1838 at Gibson Co., TN but she said they were married on Feb. 16, 1838. Sim enlisted at Trenton, TN in April 1862 and served about two years. Elizabeth said her husband was home on "ferlow" to "get up recruits for the army" when his Company and Regiment surrendered. They had eight children - 3 boys and 5 girls from 1841 to 1856. Sim died in 1871 near Dyer in Gibson Co., TN." Elizabeth's application was rejected on the basis that the military records for July to Aug. 1862 showed her husband had deserted, and no later records were found. (Many records were misplaced or lost.)1 BIRT
