After Lizzie died, John's wife, Susan, was not allowed to do any thing for the children. Easter Rogers would help them out by cooking, mending and other household chores.

From The Rogers Family book....John gave part of his land at Mountain Springs on the divide of a ridge for the Mountain Springs Cemetery, church and school. The other side of the ridge belonged to James C. Lowery who gave part of his land to the community also.
John had a long white beard in his later years. He had dark keen eyes. He made shoes for his children of animal skins. He also made some very ice wooden furniture. He was a very religious man, every night the family gathered for Bible reading.

Susan had red hair which some of her grandchildren did but none of her children.Susan was Scottish and a tradition was that everyone that come by was invited in to eat (even when there wasn't enough food) and to spend time usually the night. The men invited company and left their spouse wondering and sometimes in tears as to what to cook.
