They settled on a farm at Frogtown, Kentucky.  Frogtown's name has been changed to Kirklivingston and is located about 5 miles from Fayette, Kentucky.  They apparently remained permanently on the farm where they prospered and raised their family.

David Rice ACHESON

Never married.

He died January 6, 1886 on his farm in Clinton County, Missouri.  He was the grandson of Alexander Atchison and Lady Mary Hamilton, and a great gradson of Sir Arthur Acheson, 5th Baronet of Gosford, Gosford Castle, Market Hill, County Armagh, Ireland.

David Rice Atchison was a lawyer and legislator ans was the founder of Atchison, Missouri and for whom the city of Atchison, Kansas was named. He was elected to the United States House of Representatives in 1838.  In March 1841 he was appointed Circuit Judge in Platte County, Missouri and in October 1843 he was appointed to the United States Senate to fill the unexpired ferm of Senator Linn who had died. He subsequently was elected to the Senate and became President of the Senate from which office he resigned December 4, 1854 completing his term in the Senate March 3, 1855.  He was also an Army General having earned his Military honors and title from serving in the Missouri Militia during the Mormon War.

David Rice was a large man, commanding, dictatorial and an uncomprimising pro-slavery Southern Democrat, often boisterous but always generous.  On the issues between the North and the South he presided at a meeting of old settlers September 9, 1854 and again on November 10, he spoke at Liberty, Missouri urging the citizens of Clay County  Missouri to go to Kansas in an effort to make it a slave state.  In 1856 Kansas was in a state of anarchy and on May 15 a pro-slavery part of Missourians supported by State and Federal Officers under the leadership of David Atchison, invaded Kansas.

From 1841 to 1856 David Rice made his home in Platte City, Missouri where he boarded with Elisha Green.  In 1856 he moved to his farm in Clinton County where he built a fine home and lived until his death in 1886.
[NI824] David was a Member of the Missouri state legislature; U.S. Senator from Missouri, 1843-48, 1849-55.

David Rice Atchison was president for a day, on a Sunday, between the terms of 11th & 12th Presidents. There is only circumstantial evidence in that Alex Atchison emigrated from Ireland and went straight to Bath County, KY where the bulk of the U.S. Atchisons lived at the time. David R. Atchison & family moved to Bunchanan County, MO area in the 1800s.

David never married. He was interned at at Greenlawn Cemetery, Plattsburg, Mo. The Atchison counties in Kan. and Mo. are named for him.
