There was a John Buttram who was a witness to the marriage of Andrew Buttram's marriage to Tobia Keeton on July 3 , 1798. It probably was this John Buttram as he was a brother of Andrew. JOHN is in the 1800 in Iredell Co., North Carolina censes; 1810 in Wayne Co., Kentucky, censes with 7 children; 18 2 0 in Wayne Co., Kentucky, censes; and the 1830, 1840, 18 5 0 and 1860 Morgan Co., Tennessee censuses. The Scott County, Tennessee history shows land owned by Jo h n and son Bailey near where the New River Mill now stands. "The records indicate that John Buttram was a Loyalist during the Revolution. This might have caused him a great deal of trouble. There is a record on file at Salisbury, N C today which states that the Stinson family was opposed to Jane marrying John Buttram. It took them many years to forgive Jane and ask her to come back to North Carolin a to see them but they finally sent her word to come and bring her husband. This had to be more than 30 years after she had married. Jane went to see her parents, but John refused to go . Jane's parents gave her a slave which she took back to TN with her." Probably Jane Stinson was related to the Nancy Stinson who married John's nephew, William Bertram, III, "The Father Of The Wayne Co., KY Bertrams".
