Jonathan MARKLAND

1  _UID ECF9412F97702640BC97622A414195560E4E

Jonathan lived in MD before the Revolutionary War.  The last record of him in MD was on Oct 2, 1767 when he and Priscilla deeded "Blue Hill" to Robert Peter, merchant, for a consideration of 23 pounds, 8 shillings in sterling and 589 pounds of tobacco.  Jonathan originally purchased this tract from his sister, Margaret and her husband Alexander Reed in 1752. After the sale, Jonathan and Priscilla, moved to Augusta County, VA.  In Augusta, he signed as a witness to a will in 1777.  He lived there until after the close of the War.  The Marklands had been land owners in Washington County, PA at the time of the Revolution.  About 1794-95, Jonathan and his sons loaded their possessions at Pittsburgh, PA and floated by flat boat from Wheeling WV down the Ohio River and landed in Campbell County, KY.  Campbell County was originally part of VA and the place where the earliest records are to be found.  Campbell County, with Alexandria as its county seat, was later divided making Boone County with Burlington as its county seat.   Jonathan's son William, had evidently made an earlier trip of exploration into KY as a companion of Daniel Boone, Kent Washburne and Cornelious Washburne.  The Markland settlement was in the Burlington part of the county.  (From TL Spears' Markland Family History)1  BIRT
