Per "Markland Family and Some Allied Lines" by Caroline Carpenter, Richard was a Revolutionary soldier from Washington County, PA. I have found no reference to Richard as a Revolutionary soldier or militiaman at this time. His brother Mathew did serve as a private in the Washington County, VA militia with their future brother-in-law Brice VIRGIN & his brother Rezin VIRGIN.
