spouse of Sarah Sallie Ruff b. 1801, Newberry Co., SC, d. Feb 1880, dtr of John Henry Ruff and Margaret Maria Elizabeth Summer.Note: A couple of gedcoms at Ancestryhave Sarah Sallie Ruff m. John Adam Counts b. 26 Oct 1797 d. 7 Jan 1844. Not our guy, and thus the three SC census entries are probably somebody else as well. Note: There is also an Adam Counts being patented land in Shelby Co., OH in 1837, but no obvious reason to connect him.
Note:
Ed Doughty has his parents as Nicholas Kunce and Mary Anna Otty. So does C.C.
Counts, who calls this the belief of Missouri researchers. The names of his
children corroborate this belief.Note: Mustered out of War of 1812 in Franklin Co., TN.

The earliest known ancestor of the Kuntz, Coons, Coonces, and our ancestor John Adam Counts, that settled in the Va.area, is Henchin Cuntze ca. 1500. He lived in Niederndorf of the Nassau-Siegenoregion of Germany in early to mid 1500's. This was in the time of Martin Luther and the Protestant Reformation. The Roman Catholic influnce, a part of German history for centuries, vied with Lutherans and members of the Reformed Faith for support in government. The country was also constantly at war with people on all sides. This was a time of shifting borders a
