FUNERAL SERVICES SUNDAY AFTERNOON FOR DR. HAYMOND
-------
Dr. Raymond G. Earl Haymond, one of Shelby county's most distinguished citizens, ended hisown life yesterday. A retired physician, Dr. Haymond was a native of Shelby county but had spent the major part of his life in Louisville. He was found dead at his home north of Waldron at 9:30 a.m. Friday morning by a niece, Juanita Haymond. According to Dr. C.J. Price, county coroner, he had shot himself with a .38 caliber revolver. The coroner said that the muzzle of the weapon had been placed under his chin, with the bullet coursing upward into his head. Dr. Haymond's action in taking his own life was attributed to ill health. He had been in poor health since early in 1943, and his condition had been described as serious for the past three weeks. Suffering from cardiac asthma, Dr. Haymond referred to his illness in a note which also stated that "I guess this is the best way." The 69 year old physician had been very active in many civic programs over the county since his retirement 10 years ago. He had maintained an active membership in a large number of organizations. Among other civic affiliations, he had given a great deal of time and support to Boy Scouting activities in the county and had been chairman of the Camp Flat Rock Scout program. During the late war, he held the chairmanship of the county war price and rationing board for an extended period, and had held membership on several price control panels. Early in life he became a member of the Waldron Methodist Church. He served as a medical corps captain in the First World War. Dr. Haymond was a member of the Waldron Order of Eastern Star, Scottish Rite order at Louisville, Kosair Shrine temple at Louisville, Shelbyville Victory Post No. 70, American Legion, the Elks Lodge at Louisville, the S.A.E. social fraternity and Pi Mu legal fraternity. He was one of the organizers of the Waldron Community Club. Born in Waldron February 4, 1878, Dr. Haymond was the son of James W. & Celeste Adeline (Crisler) Haymond. In 1897, he was married to Alma Watts, in Shelby county. Two children were born to the union, and one of them, Mrs. Dott Copeland, of Mooresville, survives. Another daughter, Justine LaVerne, died in infancy. His wife preceded him in death in March 1903. Other survivors are two grandchildren, Patricia and Jimmy Copeland, a brother, Fred Haymond, of Indianapolis; a sister, Mrs. Henry Meloy, of Shelbyville, and several nieces and nephews. Three brothers and four sisters preceded him. A graduate of the Waldron High school, Dr. Haymond was privately tutored before entering the University of Louisville medical school, from which he graduated in 1909. He became associated with the Pope hospital at Louisville and later became the institution's head and owner. He operated the hospital until 1937, when he retired and returned to his home at Waldron. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock in the Charles M. Ewing mortuary. Officiating at the rites will be the Rev. Fred Young, of Franklin, assisted bv the Rev. Vernon Lallement, of Stockwell. Burial will be made in the Ogden cemetery, South of Waldron. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7:00 p.m. today.

HAYNES, Charles I.
PROMINENT MAN OF THIS CITY ANSWERS CALL
C. I. Haynes Dies at His Home Early Thursday Morning
WAS CIVIL WAR VETERAN
Had for Many Years Until Retired for Age, Been Efficient City Marshal
The city of Estherville suffers the loss of one of its prominent men and the G. A. R. Post one of its few surviving members in the passing of Mr. C. I. Haynes early Thursday morning [November 1, 1923].
Mr. Haynes had been ailing from the infirmities of old age, mainly chronic myocarditis, for some time but even his own family was unaware that death was so near. He arose early Thursday morning as was his custom but was stricken with heart failure soon after rising.
Charles Isaiah Haynes was born in Iowa City, Iowa on November 30, 1842 being at the time of his death eighty years, eleven months, and one day of age. He was the third son of George Washington Haynes and Tacy Inschoe Haynes. He served for three years in the Union army during the Civil War.
In 1866 he married Louisa Crisler. To them were born Charles Herbert, who preceded his father to the Great Beyond; Dr. Halbert Andrew now in Berlin, Germany; Dr. Benja. Hubert of St. James, Minn.; and Mrs. Irwin J. Robinson of Estherville. Louisa Crisler Haynes died March 26, 1887.
Mr. Haynes moved to Estherville in 1882 from Morris, Ill., where he had made his home for many years. The next year he returned to Illinois and was married on May 18, 1893, to Mary E. Dudgeon at Coal City. To this union two children were born, Lucile Cecile (Mrs. Frank Crumb, and Gordon Wallace. Mr. Haynes is survived by all his children except the oldest boy, as well as his devoted wife.
During the early years of Mr. Haynes' residence here he devoted his time to looking after his extensive land interests, as he owned at one time about two thousand acres of land in Jack Creek township. In his later years he was city marshal and served most efficiently in that capacity until about five years ago.
In early youth he united with the Congregational church and was at the time of his death a member of the Presbyterian Church.
The funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon at the Presbyterian Church conducted by the pastor, Dr. Voorhies. The music was furnished by the Estherville male quartette. The floral offerings were many and beautiful. There was a large attendance of the citizens of Estherville and at the suggestion of the pastor the congregation stood for a moment of silent prayer in tribute to the memory of an old soldier who had served his country nobly in her time of need. The members of the G. A. R. and American Legion and War Mothers attended as organizations. The Legion boys marched to the cemetery where they fired the salute and taps was blown. Another of the Boys of 61-65 has been laid away in Oak Hill cemetery. May we as appreciative citizens prove ourselves worthy of the glorious heritage they gave us.
Dr. B. H. Haynes, wife and son Russell of St. James, Minn., and Mrs. F. F. Frazee of Sheridan, sister of Mrs. C. I. Haynes were here to attend the funeral.
