it is believed she was born in Pendleton Co., SC (now Pickett County) although she shows on the 1850 census she was born in Va. It is believed she may have shown Va. because that is where her father was from.

It is believed Pleasant Ogletree came out of Wilkes County, Georgia, for he appears there on Land lotteries and several surety marriage licenses from 1797-1806. He served in the War of 1812.

In a land claim by Elvie Christian, No. 40490,, she claims to be a grand daughter of Stephen Mayfield and an Indian Woman named Jack, an Eastern Cherokee. She claims that Rachel was stolen by Stephen from her mother.

Rachel appears to be taking care of her parents on the 1830 census and yet Stephen did not mention her in his will, he gave all his land to Stephen,. before he died.
