It was from Nicholas Copeland, who married Nancy Lott and settled in Chatham County, N.C. prior to 1761 that the South Carolina family of Copelands originated. The following deeds appear in Spottsylvania County, VA but there is no evidence that he ever lived there. Peter his son married the daughter of George Reeves and lived there, this may have been the land he lived on, Peter was a witness to deeds of Dec. 2, 1752 & Oct. 4 1755.
