Lucinda B. Brown15 was born in December 1861 in Fentress Co., Tennessee. She died on 23 February 1926 at the age of 64 in Monterey, PuTennesseeam Co., Tennessee. She was buried in Big Springs Cemetery, Near Sparta, White Co., Tennessee. LUCINDA had a hard life. She bore six children and two of them died in infancy. Her husband was an invalid for two years before his death and they spent everything they had to just survive through his illness. When John died in 1898 she was left with four young sons to rear and support alone. When they were older they worked for the Ravens croft C oal Mines at Bon Air, near Sparta, in White Co., Tennessee , and tried to keep their mother supported. Lucinda is in the 1900 White Co., 9th Civil District; and t he 1910 White Co., Ravenscroft, Tennessee; and the Fent ress Co., Tennessee censuses. On June 22, 1912 she applied for a Confederate Indigent Widow's Pension and it was eventually approved, although the Pension Board could not find John's Military Service Record s as a soldier in Co. H, 8th Regiment, Tennessee Cavalry . This Company was organized Sept. 15, 1862 in White Co . , Tennessee under James M. Barnes, and later became part of the 13th (Dibrell's) Tennessee Cavalry Regiment. At the time of her death in 1926 she was living with her son, Willis at Monterey, Putnam Co., Tennessee. Her body wa returned to White Co., Tennessee and buried in the Big Springs Cemetery on the Monterey Highway, about 8 miles out of Sparta. Her son referred to the cemetery as the Bridge H ill Cemetery, probably because it is on a hill near a bridge, but that is not the official name. Her grave is unmarked. but I suspect it is near the grave of her son, Charley , who preceeded her in death. (His grave is marked.) A court document in her pension file says her grave is near that of Dr. Wesley Breeding.
