Funeral Was Held Thurday For Pearl Elkins Davis, 88
The funeral for Mrs. Pearl Elkins Davis, 88, formerly of Morton's Gap, was held Thursday morning, Aug. 15, at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Madisonville.The Rev. Steve Caza officiated. Burial was in Emberry Cemetery in Todd County. Mrs. Davis died Monday, Aug. 12, at 3:5 3 p.m. in Cross Plains; Tenn. She was born May 31, 1908, Todd County, daughter of the Andrew B. and Dicie Jane Latham Johnston. Mrs. Davis was a member of Seventh Day Adventist Church. She was also preceded in death by two husbands, Pallas Elkins in 1976 and Otho Davis in 1986. Surviving are two sons, Glen Elkins, Sullivan, and Harlan Elkins, Kouts, Ind.; four daughters, Lillian Bailey, Blue Island, Ill., Flossie Jane Frailey, Cross Plains, Nola King, Roanoke Rapids, N.C., and Barbara Szalmasgi, Kouts; three brothers, Omar Johnston and Woodson Johnston, both Dawson Springs, and John Johnston, Kissimme, Fla.; 18 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren. She was buried on 15 August 1996 in Emberry Cem, Todd, Kentucky. Parents: Andrew Burton JOHNSTON and Dossie Jane "Dicy" LATHAM.

Funeral for Lilburn B. Johnston, 69 was held Tuesday afternoon, Aug 3 at Reid-Walters funeral home Earlington. The Rev Kenneth Johnston and the Rev. O.R. Davis officiated. Burial in Emberry Cemetery in Todd county. Johnston, formerly of Hopkins county died at 10:15 A.M. Thursday, July 29 in his home at Southington, Conn. he had been in ill heath for the past two years. He was born July 30, 1912 in Todd county, son of the late Andrew and Dicy Latham Johnston. He married Teresa Pauline Wilberson in 1935. She died in 1979. He was a retired coal miner and a member of the Grapevine Missionary Baptist Church. Survives include one daughter, Mrs. Jane Smith, Southington: one son Thomas Ray Greer, Mortons Gap; one sister, Mrs. Pearl Elkins Davis; three brothers, Woodson Johnston, and Omer Johnston, both of Dawson Springs, and John Johnston of Providence; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Greer, 26, Dies At Ilsley
Mrs. Maleasure Ellen Greer, 26, died suddenly at 9 a.m. Thursday in her home at Ilsley after suffering from an apparent attack of indigestion following breakfast. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Johnston, Mrs. Greer was born in Todd county and with her parents, moved to Hopkins county when she was nine months old. She married Harry Royal in 1936 and to this union three sons were born. Mr. Royal died in 1941 and she married Thomas R. Greer in 1944. Two were born of this union. Besides the husband and parents, survivors include five children, William Andrew, John Evan and Robert Earl Royal; and David Wayne and Thomas Ray Greer; a sister, Mrs. Pallos Elkins, Mortons Gap; and four brothers, Lilburn Johnston, Carbondale; John Johnston, Earlington; and Woodson and Omer Johnston, Ilsley. The remains were take today to the home in Ilsley. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Sunday in Earlington Assembly of God Church with Rev. Luther Teague, Oak Hill, officiating. Burial will be in Johnston cemetery in Todd county, near Kirkmansville. (Madisonville Messenger) She was buried on 7 December 1946 in Johnston Cem, Kirkmansville, Todd, Kentucky. He was born in Todd County on Dec. 30, 1916, to the late Andrew and Dicey Latham Johnston. He was a coal miner, retiring from Island Creek Coal Company Providence # 1 in 1973, worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps, and was a member of the United Mine Workers of America for 64 years. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Johnston; one son, Harold Johnston; two sisters, Pearl Elkins and Leasure Greer; and two brothers, Lilburn Johnston and John Johnston. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lena Wilson Johnston of Dawson Springs; two daughters, Stella Adams and Linda Harper, both of Dawson Springs; one son, Jimmy Johnston of Dawson Springs; one brother, Omer Johnston of Dawson Springs; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Reid-Walters Funeral Home in Earlington with Rev. Kenneth Johnston officiating. Burial will be in Ilsley Cemetery in Ilsley.
