Siler family records indicate that the immigrant was named Plikard Dederick Seyler. They relate that Seyler/Siler met a 14 year old girl, Elisabeth "Hartsoe," who was on the ship with her family. He fell in love with her and determined to marry her. Because he had to work in Pennsylvania to repay the cost of his passage he did not immediately ask for her hand.
