Andrew Jackson "Jack" Buttram Lt.15 was born in 1816 in Jasper Co., Georgia. He died on 23 April 1865 at the age of 49 in Munford, Teledega Co., Alabama. ANDREW was a Lt. in the Confederate Army and was shot an d d ied during the Croxton's Raid at the Battle of Munford , Ala bama, 23 April 1865. It is believe that he was the l ast Co nfederate soldier killed in battle during the Civi l War. H e is buried where he fell, just where the Talladeg a road fo rks in the town of Munford. He was buried the fo llowing da y by citizens of the town. His grave is the onl y evidenc e remaining of the battle. There is a monument to the memory of A.J. Buttram, Confede r ate soldier, in the little town of Munford, Georgia. I t wa s erected by the John T. Morgan Chapter of the Unite d Daugh ters of the Confederacy. The inscription is: "In Memory or, Andrew Jackson Buttram, Confederate Soldie r , Killed here April 23, 1865, During Croxton's Raid, Erec te d by Veterans, and their descendants". Andrew was assinged to Capt. B. C. Raney's Randolph City R e serve, Company E, Low's Regiment which was assigned to Be nj amin Hill's Brigade at Blue Mountain. Capt. Raney's ent ir e Company was captured at Munford except for Lt. Buttra m wh o was killed. Those captured were held at Taladega, A labam a until 30 May 1865 when they were paroled.

His father and mother both died young; 1841 and 1844 , respectively, and his move was the result of a need or desir e to be near his Uncle George Washington Miser who had moved to the Pea Ridge, Benton County, Arkansas area about 1848. "Granny Nicles" joined a wagon caravan and drove their wagon to Benton County. This woman was Mary Nubal Nicels (Nickles), relationship unknown, who was born 14 October 1782 , died 6 February 1866.
