His father and mother both died young; 1841 and 1844 , respectively, and his move was the result of a need or desir e to be near his Uncle George Washington Miser who had moved to the Pea Ridge, Benton County, Arkansas area about 1848. "Granny Nicles" joined a wagon caravan and drove their wagon to Benton County. This woman was Mary Nubal Nicels (Nickles), relationship unknown, who was born 14 October 1782 , died 6 February 1866. Her name was added at the bottom of the page in their family Bible. Source #20

GEORGE W. BUTTRAM was killed at the battle of Perryvill e , K entucky. He was a Private in Company H, 41st Regiment , Georgia Infantry, the Confederate Army. During this battle the Confederates had 510 killed in Action, the USA 845 ; CSA had 2635 wounded, the USA 2,815; and the CSA had 251 missing or captured, the USA 515. The Union Army' s victory at Perryville, Kentucky, forced the Confederates to retreat to Tennessee, ending the invasion of Kentucky. George is buried in Confederate Cemetery, Perryville Batt e field. He was buried in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. HARMON moved to Rhea Co., Tennessee, about 1828 with his p a rents. He had little or no formal education. He signe d hi s name with an 'X'. Harmon and Sarah Lucinda moved t o Carro ll Co., Georgia, with her parents between 1836 an d 1839. A bout 1865, just after the end of the war, Harmo n and his fa mily, including widowed daughter Nancy with he r child, an d a widowed daughter-in-law with her child, lef t Carroll Co ., Georgia, for St. Clair Co., Alabama. They m ade the tri p by wagon, carrying all of their belongings wi th them. I t is believed they went through Cleburne Co. wh ere one of L ucinda's brothers was living at the time. I t is believed t hat they crossed the Coosa River at Greensp ort Ferry, the n on into St. Clair Co. They never went bac k to Georgia t o visit. There is no record of him having s erved the Confe derate Army. It is not known how he was ab le to avoid mili tary service. There is some evidence tha t he was not wholl y in sympathy with the Confederate Cause . Harmon was a Far mer, Trader, Lay Preacher, and a Builde r. He was very acti ve in his religion. He was buried bes ide his first wife, S arah Lucinda, at Pleasant Hill. Mos t of the Butram's in St . Clair Co., Alabama are descende d from Harmon. After his mother's death, Harmon went back to Tennessee a n d brought his father (John Elijah Buttram) to Alabama t o li ve with him. His father remained with Harmon until hi s dea th in 1871. He is buried in a stone covered grave a t Red H ill Cemetery. The Inscription can no longer be rea d.

Iredell (A.D.) BUTTRAM14 was born in 1841 in Morgan Co., Tennessee. He died in 1864. IREDEL was a soldier in the Union Army. He starved to dea t h in the prison camp on Belle Isle, during the war. The P ri son camp on Belle Isle was Libbey Prison. It was locate d a t Richmond, Virginia, but the Confederates moved the pr ison ers from Belle Isle to other places as the war drew ne ar Ri chmond. There is some proof that Iredel died at Ande rsonvi lle as there is a tombstone of Private Iredel Buttra m in th e Andersonville National Park. Source #19. Jacob BUTTRAM14 was born about 1775 in Rowan Co., North Carolina. He died about 1855 in Mcminn Co., Tennessee. JACOB is shown in the 1800 census of Iredell Co., North Carolina and was in Wayne Co., Kentucky in 1810 & 1820, moving to eastern Tennessee, Rhea Co. in 1830, then just across the Tennessee River to McMinn Co. about 1835. Jacob shows on the 1840 McMinn Co., Tennessee census and left a will in the McMinn Co. Will Book #22, 23 Sept 1855. Jacob Buttram also appears in Will Book 1:140 JULY 1858; Rhea Co. , Tennessee. Jacob and his family founded Buttram's Chapel Methodist Church about 1835 in McMinn Co. Parents: William BUTRAM and Living.

Jacob BUTTRAM14 was born on Dec 16, 1829 in Wayne Co., Kentucky. He died on Nov 1, 1905 in Hereford, Smith Co., Texas. He was buried in Deaf Smith Cemetery. JACOB moved to Scott (now Logan) Co., Arkansas in 1849 wi t h his brother Elihu. He erected six houses in the town of Sugar Grove, Logan Co.,Arkansas was latter named . Elihu's wife and Jacob's parents were buried in the cemetery on Jacob's place. He was elected representative of Scott County, an office he held until the close of the war. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 205 of Sugar Creek and was made a Master Mason in the Booneville Lodge in 1859. Jacob and his second wife Emma moved to Hereford, Texa s in April 1902 due to his health. Other Buttram kinfolks lived in Jacob's houses until a lake was built. The cemetery was moved to build the lake. Parents: Noah BUTTRAM and Ann HUFFAKER.
