Mills KNOX FAMILY(1) At a time many years ago, three brothers named Knox left their native Scotland and came to America. One settling in Massachusetts, one in Michigan, and one in Tennessee. One of these brothers was the ancestor of the wife of President James K. Polk, while the City of Knoxville, Tennessee was named in honor of the family. A descendant, Thomas Knox, came to Indian Fields, Clark County, Kentucky, as a hunter and later moved to a region of the state where game was more plentiful. His son, George Knox, settled in what is now Powell County, Kentucky; he married and among his children was a son, John Knox, who spent his long life in Powell County. His wife was Arminda Hanks, a relative of Nancy Hanks, the mother of Abraham Lincoln; six children were born to them. After the death of his first wife in middle life, he married secondly, and was the father of four children. Four of the sons of John Knox became physicians, namely: Dr. Calvin C. Knox of Bowen, Ky.: Dr. Melvin L. Knox of Torrent, Ky., Dr. A. T. Knox of Clark County, Ky.; and Dr William O. Knox of Montgomery County, Ky. KNOX FAMILY (2) Dr. A. T. Knox, son of John T.
