Dear Christine:

You are nice to take time to reply. I would like to view your family tree but most of all I wondered what your relation was to Isabella. I was born in Red River County near Clarksville, Texas and, moved shortly to Lamar Co. and grew up there. Many books and newspaper articles paint a picture of a spirited, colorful individual. My childhood was filled with visits to Clarksville and stories about herand my great-grandfather. He was her second husband and died when he was only38 years of age. You, no doubt know all this, though.

Sincerely,
Donna Johnson

Dear Christine,

I am not skilled at all -- that is, no doubt, quite obvious -- nor am I a consistent genealogy "worker" - I had a cousin that did a tremendous amount of work -- and then, as I mentioned, Isabella Hopkins (her first husband was John Hanks and they had one daughter, Minerva Hanks) was someone that was written about and I have those stories. John Hanks died as a young man and Isabella married James Clark, my great-grandfather, for whom Clarksville was named. James Clark adopted Minerva - he also died young and Isabella married Dr. George Gordon who cared for James in his last illness -- soundedlike "strep" throat.

We may not be even distant relatives - I'll have to think on that -- if your connection is through the Hanks. I was glad to read more on the Hanks line, though. They were certainly one of the early pioneer families in Texas. I think I remember hearing that John had a brother that settled in Nacogdoches and was active in early Texas history there.

I got your name from my Internet "wanderings" -- through "ancestry" and then Isabella Hopkins name. I checked the e-mail address of the contributor and got your e-mail.

Iam a retired state worker, live in Austin, Texas, am 75 years of age -doesn't seem possible but of course it is -- am an active docent at the LBJ Presidential Library and Museum and the Governor's Mansion as well as the International Hospitality office at UT.

My three wonderful children, a daughter and 2 sons, live in Dallas, McKinney and Chicago.

Sincerely,
Donna

Dear Christine,

You are always so kind and so prompt to answer. You are amazing in your research -- quantity and accuracy -- at least as far as I am concerned. The little bit I know came to me from living with those that knew these people. I thinkthat I told you that my Dad was born in 1872 and was 54 years old before my birth.

Small errors as the Ladydreamchaser makes are relatively insignificant, and had I not lived at the time I did, I would never pick up the reversed relationship many people bestow on Captain James Clark, son, and James Clark, father and husband to Isabella.

I did write, twice I think, to the Ladydreamchaser to no avail. Silence makes you think that she
