WE MOVED TO MURFREESBORO IN A GREEN MODEL A FORD,4 DOORS. WE RENTED A PLACE ON THE FRANKLIN PIKE, ABOUT 3-4 MILES OUT,THERE THE KIDS WENT TO
McFADDEN SCHOOL.BOB DIDN'T LIKE SCHOOL SO ONE DAY HE TOOK OFF,WALKED HOME
AND HENERITTA BORROWED A BICYCLE TO GO SEE ABOUT HIM.THEY LATER MOVED
TO A PLACE ON THE WOODBURY PIKE ,ON THE OTHER SIDE OF MURFREESBORO.
BILL AND BOB WORKED FOR A MISTER BROWN,HE MADE ICE CREAN AND TRADED IT
FOR FRUIT JARS.MAYBE HE WAS MAKING MOON SHINE.BOB HAD A TRACTOR WITH A
STEEL FRONT WHEEL RUN OVER HIS FOOT.BOB GOT MAD AT HIS DAD ONE DAY AND
PUT 4 NAILS UNDER HIS TIRES ONE UNDER EACH TIRE,OF COURSE HE HAD 4 FLATS,
I DONT THINK DAD DID ANY THING TO ME,I DONT KNOW WHY,OF COURSE NOW I AM
SORRY THAT I DID IT.WE MOVED AGAIN THIS TIME TO TOWN TO A HOUSE ON
TENN.BLVD. CLOSE TO THE STATE COLLEGE,WHERE WE WOULD PLAY SOME TIMES.
WE HAD SIDE WALKS THERE AND WOULD SKATE FOR BLOCKS.WE LIVED IN A HOUSE WITH A WINTERS FAMILY,THEY HAD A BARN OUT IN THE BACK,WHERE WE WOULD PLAY
THINGS WERE GETTING BETTER BY NOW DAD HAD GOTTEN A 1936 CHEVY. I RECALL
CLEANING OUT THE WELL THERE,I WAS THE SMALLEST SO THEY MADE A PULLY OF
SOME KIND AND LOWERED ME INTO THE WELL, IT WAS NOT VERY DEEP,BUT IT WAS VERY WIDE. WE PICKED STRAWBERRYS THERE FOR A MAN NEXT DOOR,I THINK WE GOT
2 CENTS A BASKET PLUS ALL WE COULD EAT.WE MOVED TO THE TODD FARM IN ABOUT
1940 OR SO,THERE SUE MET HER FUTURE HUSBAND ,FLYOD DOUGLAS.THE SECOND WORLD WAR STARTED WHILE WE LIVED THERE AND BILL,BOB, AND E.J. POPE, WOULD GO TO THE STORE FOR THE SOLDIERS,BUY ALL THE CANDY THAT THE LITTLE STORE HAD,AND SELL IT TO THE SOLDIERS,BILL SAID MOTHER WOULD PUT OUR MONEY IN A FLOUR SACK AND SAVE IT FOR US,WE ALSO
SHINED SHOES ON SATURDAY WHEN THE G.I,S WOULD COME TO TOWN. HENERITTA MET
GEORGE WHILE HE WAS ON MANUVERS THERE,THEY WERE LATER MARRIED,GEORGE WENT OVERSEAS TO GERMANY AND WAS WOUNDED THERE,HENERITTA WAS LIVING WITH US,
I REMEMBER WE HAD A BANNER OR STAR ON OUR FRONT DOOR FOR GEORGE. WE MOVED TO TOWN IN ABOUT,1941 THERE DAD BOUGHT A HOUSE ON ACADEMY STREET FOR
$2500.00 DOLLARS,IT HAD OUR FIRST INDOOR PLUMBING,1 BATH AN 2 BEDROOMS.
THAT WAS THE ONLY THING THAT DAD EVER MADE PAYMENTS ON,AND HE PAID THAT OFF EARLY.DAD ONLY CHARGED THE PAPER AND GROCERIES AT
SMOTHERMANS GROCERY STORE.BILL DELIVERED GROCERIES FOR A STORE ON A BICYCLE,I THINK HE GOT US OUR FIRST PHONE.WE GOT OUR FIRST T.V. SET ALSO
